Star Fissure (MYST)

By the way, I do fun graphic design stuff too! I came up with this when I randomly had thoughts about what sort of tattoo I might get if I were ever to get one. I decided I would want something somewhat obscure that a few people might recognize, but anyone else would just interpret it as "a neat design" that doesn't need explanation.

My original idea was an open book with the Star Fissure in the middle, but the composition was awkward, a bit crowded and I couldn’t get the book to look right at that size with the stylized, low level of detail I was going for. So I reworked the design into this. Simpler, cleaner, recognizable to some folks, mysterious to others.
